The Coast to Coast Cycle run is designed so that it can be cycled from west to east coast. Sometimes called Sea to Sea (C2C), the cycle route was developed
by 'Sustrans' in partnership with various Local Authorities. The route
was opened in 1994, and runs from Whitehaven on the west coast
of Cumbria to the North East coast at Sunderland, An average
of between 12,000 and 15,000 cyclists comple the route every
year. The ride starts in the former
coal mining and industrial lands of West Cumbria, travels through
the stunning scenery of the Northern Lake District, heading
into Keswick before it passes through Penrith and the Eden Valley
with its lush valleys and sandstone villages. It then starts the
amazing climb up to Hartside and onto the unspoilt Northern Pennines -
the roof of England. There, it follows an undulating ride through old lead mining villages, such as Nenthead
and Rookhope, and down into the Durham Dales before entering the
old steel town of Consett. From there, it's an easy ride through
one of the UK's old industrial heartlands to the North Sea and
Sunderland. Overall, not for the faint hearted.

Cycling in the Lakes can be as easy or as tough as you want it to be. Cumbria has an unparralled network of country lanes, bridleways, and cycle paths allowing you to ride along and discover beautiful countryside. And then there's the Fells. If you're really adventurous, you could take on the famous C2C route - but you do need to be fit since it can be pretty arduous. For easy riding, take the flatter paths on the Solway Firth or ride through the Eden valley. If you want a trial run, lots of local companies hire out bikes and you can just set your own pace.

Cumbria offers lots of opportunities for traditional and sports climbing to suit every style and grade of difficulty. Beginners can take courses to start off, while the more expert climber can take up challenges offered by a variety of terrain. You'll find something to suit different styles and grades. For example, you might want to climb on the sea cliffs or scale the remote heights of Scafell. Or, you could go for the easy access roadside climbs in Borrowdale or the quarries at Hodge Close and Parrock. Perhaps you would prefer to go bouldering at Langdale. You might even want to take advantage of the special winter routes at New Dollywagon, which lies to the south of Helvellyn. No matter what area of the Lake District is best for you, or what size your group is, Lakelets will help you find comfortable accommodation.
