The arerial playground of Cumbria is a great venue for gliding, which, amazingly enough, does not need lessons or a licence for you to get up in the sky and take to the controls. You will, however, need tuition and advice before taking to the skys. After a short briefing you can be towed or winched into the air and if you're happy, the instructor will hand you the controls until it's time to land. The art lies in finding the rising air to gain height and this can result in sudden and surprising bursts of speed taking you large distances.
