Approaching Keswick, you'll be inspired by this idyllic little Lakeland Town sitting on Derwentwater, a beautiful stretch of water known as the 'Queen of Lakes.' There's something for everyone in Keswick. It's a great location for touring the Lake District in any direction. Also, if you want it, there's a bustling shopping area with fabulous little shops. There's amzing places to eat and great entertainment - and the pubs and beer are definitely worth sampling. Keswick is a must for families too. with lots to keep the kids busy. There's the 'puzzling place ' a climbing wall and the famous Cumberland pencil museum, where you can see the world's largest ever pencil. You don't want to miss the opportunity of taking a trip on the Keswick Launch across Derwentwater Bay. If you're feeling fit, there's a nice broad path up to the top of 'Skiddaw' and at the 'Back o' Skiddaw,' you'll find the peculiarly named 'Great Cockup.' But. if you're looking for solitude and calm, you can meander over to the Uldale Fells or plan a walk around Lorton Vale and Buttermere.
Take the opportunity to visit the small hamlet town of Caldbeck, home of John Peel. and Chris Bonnington You'll also find good climbing south of Keswick through the 'Jaws of Borrowdale, ' past the resplendent River Derwent and the wooded Borrowdale Crags that give way to the Rosthwaite and Stonethwaite valleys. Soon after that, you'll find Honister Pass and the Honister Slate Mine. News: The pioneering Osprey Bus, backed by the Heritage Lottery Fund, now takes in Keswick, Bassenthwaite Lake, Whinlatter and the famous Dodd Wood viewpoint. By developing a much needed sustainable transport system, hopes are high that more people will be encouraged to leave their cars in Keswick and at the same time support the popular Lake District Osprey Project. In addition to the scheduled timetable stops, the bus operates on a hail and ride basis. Biking is enormously popular in and around Whinlatter Forest and the large cycle rack on the bus will help cyclists get there quickly and safely.
