The Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Beauty is a special protected landscape within easy travelling District of the Lake District. The diverse landscape offers fantastic opportunities for quiet enjoyment, with its unique mix of seascapes, sand dunes, salt marsh, raised mires, and mud flats. The area is flat and therefore ideal for cycling both on and off road. Hadrian's Cycleway is one possibility, or you might prefer to ride along the quiet country roads and discover some of the unspoilt countryside and charming hamlets and villages. For walkers, easy to follow trails include Five Circular Family Walks, the Solway Villages Trail and the Solway Smugglers Route among others. The Tourist Information centre in Silloth has information about things to see and do, including walking and cycling and bird watching. |
