Lake District Peninsulas
The Lake District Peninsulas boast a rich religious heritage, with remains of abbeys and churches dotted all around the area.  Some of the quietest hills are also evident, for example, Bankhead Moor and Dunnerdale. The hamlets and towns include Grange over Sands, Cartmel, Ulverston, Holker, Broughton and Dalton.

Grange over Sands is located in a sunny sheltered south facing bay and has a very good range of pubs, shops, cafes, and restaurants. It also has a fine promenade and some very well attended parks and gardens.

Cartmel is a medieval village with an imposing 12th Century Prioriy, cobbled streets and lovely lanes over quaint bridges. It's situated in Cumbria between the Lake District National Park and Morecombe Bay, so ideal for a nice day out if you're staying near the Park. There's also a wide slection of short term holiday accommodation in lovely cottages, if the area attracts you and you want to spend a bit more time browsing around. There's vehicular access is through the Medieval Gatehouse into the Market Square with a car park just round the corner. The village is a pure delight to visit, with window boxes and flowers visible everywhere. Best of all is the Cartmel Village Shop - one of Rick Stein's Food Heroes - where you will find the famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding . The shop also sells home made artisan bread and a great selection of sweet smelling baking, produced in the shops's own kitchens.

Similar to Cartmel, Ulverston is a very well preserved old market town with cobbled streets,
