Fell running is one of Cumbria's oldest and most testing sports requiring a great deal of mental and physical fitness. The area hosts over 50 fell races a year plus traditional events for the whole community. There are also personal challenges such as the' Bob Graham Round,' which takes in 42 peaks in 24 hours. Many youngsters are taking part in this gruelling activity so the sport is still going from strength to strength. Remember conditions on the Fells can change swiftly so you must always take heed of personal safety. Follow the advice of experts about carrying spare clothes, emergency rations, map and compass etc. More information about Fell Running from the Fell Runners Association (FRA) and about local races and events in Cumbria on the web-site of the Cumberland Fell Runners Club (CFR).
