Wordsworth (April 7, 1790 - April 23, 1850) helped launch the Romantic Age in English literature. His masterpiece is generally considered to be 'The Prelude,' an autobiographical poem of his early years. It was never published during his lifetime, and was only given the title after his death. Wordsworth was born in Cockermouth , where his home - now known as Wordworth House - is looked after by the National Trust. He later moved several miles across the Lake District to Dove Cottage, situated to the South of Grasmere Village, on the A591 Kendal to Keswick road. The cottage and museum were shortlisted for the Guardian family-friendly museums awards, 2005 and along with the restaurant are open daily from 9.30am-5.30pm from March to December. An open top bus (no.599) operates from Windermere to Grasmere every 20 minutes during the summer. Cycle bars are located next to the restaurant where early morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea is served for much of the year.
